Since the stupendous success of "Avatar", James Cameron has been called upon by Amazonian tribes and various groups to help bring exposure to their fight for social change.
Cameron has been busy fighting Eco-Terrorism, raised social and environmental awareness, and on several occasions, passionately expressed his views on Global Warming. Along the way, Cameron managed to ruffle some Republican feathers by chiding Global Warming deniers and their Messiah, Glenn Beck as being "very dangerous to this country".
It seems Cameron is an overnight social and environmental activist. However, he did state that he's been reading, studying, and being an activist for the past 20 years in a recent interview. It's just that "Avatar" has brought everything to the forefront and made it seemed like he's an overnight expert.
I do believe that Cameron, to a certain degree, put the themes in "Avatar" to express his views with the intention of bringing social and environmental awareness to the viewing public. I also believe that with the unexpected historical success of "Avatar", the effectiveness of his message was beyond the magnitude that he probably had initially envisioned. He was, therefore, thrust to be an ubiquitous vocal representative of social and environment justice.
It seems that Cameron has embraced that role quite well, and not surprisingly, garnered many more detractors both for his success and perceived arrogance (in this case, preaching about the environment as if he's an expert).
This is a prime example that great success breeds contempt in the weak minded. It is only preaching if one does not intend to learn or care to understand.
